Something-Else Saturday: Dating & Social Media: Can You Make Them Work?

Guess what is back? That is right Something-Else Saturdays! YEAH!  And I can’t think of a better way to jump back into this little feature on my blog then a great guest blog post by one of my favorite people from the great wide world of twitter!

Katie Little or has I first knew her @KT_Little offers us up some thoughts on two great subjects: Dating and Social Media. She asks some pretty great questions, and i look forward to reading what you all think about them. (and I also can’t wait to write my own responses as well) So here we go……My first ever (ever!) guest post and the return of ’something-else saturdays’

(drum roll please)

Dating & Social Media: Can You Make Them Work?

I recently rejoined the dating scene – luckily enough I have met some really great guys.

One thing that I always notice every time we go out for a meal – we order then afterwards while talking to each other, we pull out our devices (I don’t have an internet based phone but I use my iPod Touch). While waiting we still talk to each other but spend time on our devices.I never really ask ‘oh are you on Facebook or Twitter’ because sometimes that is awkward for me.

Personally, I want to keep my social media identity a secret. I am a HUGE tweeter – and have my account public.

But when is the right time to tell him about your other identity? Or maybe not? Here are a few discussion questions I want to address.

Discussion Questions:

- Is there a right time to tell him you are active on social media?

- Are you like me – you feel want to create a protection around your social media community?

- What are ways/tips to tell your man without him freaking out you’re tweeting every second bout your date?

Katie is currently looking for employment in the social media industry. At the moment she currently is a nanny for a 1st grader and babysits for 6 families. She holds a graduate degree in leadership and management with a focus on social media and leadership from York St. John University in York, England. Katie’s strong background in customer relations, communications and leadership has contributed to her many successes.

In her spare time Katie caters to the whims of many canine companions through her business Your Puppy Nanny where she provides “loving care for when you’re not there…”

Something-Else Saturday: Allergy-Free Deserts

I first came into contact with Elizabeth Gordon and her Betsy and Claude Baking Co. while searching for great gluten free and dairy free cookies to have on hand as a treat about 2 years ago.

I order her cookies, and to this day her gingersnap cookies are the BEST gingersnap cookies I’ve had in my entire life (don’t tell my grandma!) And considering they were allergy free (no soy, no eggs, no nuts, no dairy, and yup no gluten) that says a lot!

Since then I’ve made orders, made a suggestion for a new flavor (cranberry orange) that were also very amazing, or should I say much better then the cranberry orange cookies I’ve made.

I have always kind of prided on myself on my ability to bake great tasting allergy free cookies, but after having Elizabeth’s cookies, I never wanted to feed people mine again! I couldn’t hold a torch to her.

Betsy & Claude Baking Co. is no longer making the cookies I love to order, but is now doing special event catering! It makes me want to meet a nice boy and get married just so I can have Betsy & Claude Baking Co. make a cake of amazing gingersnap cookies!

So if I can’t order the cookies, why would I pick this as my Something-Else Saturday you might be asking?  EASY!

Elizabeth is now an author! Her first cookbook dropped a few months ago. And I have been feverishly making my way through my copy.

Allergy-free Desserts is calk full of recipes of cakes, cookies, pie, bars, and even breads that will leave your taste buds satisfied, and even better if you happen to suffer from food allergies your body happy! (Plus a great glossary of ingredients, amazing photos, and little stories)

Because here’s the thing, you don’t have to have an intolerance or allergy to enjoy these foods, and just because you don’t doesn’t mean you should be scared to try them. TRUST ME gluten, egg, nut, soy, milk free deserts CAN taste good.  In fact sometimes they will be the best you have ever tasted! Plus, any doctor would agree that a gluten free lifestyle (or limited life style) would do your body wonders!

The cinnamon swirl rolls are these chewy amazing rolls of straight up GOODNESS!

The chocolate crinkle cookies were the first thing to go at the party I took them too.

I’m pretty positive the lemon ice box pie got me into a boys pants!

And I have a date with the chocolate zucchini cupcakes this week!

If you like to bake, know someone who does, or you need to add to your cookbook collection to impress girls with, this book is a must!

You can get this book  from Amazon, Borders, or Barnes & Noble.

Also check out Elizabeth’s Blog for more great recipes and stories, and some great cooking videos on YouTube! She is also one of my oldest twitter friends, so check her out @AllergyFreeLife !

Happy Baking, and I’ll see you next Saturday!

Something-Else Saturdays: AN INTRODUCTION

So I’m starting something new.  Mainly because spring has sprung and summer is around the corner. And I’d rather be outside then inside at the computer. But also because I’ve been trying to find a great way to tell you all about fun and cool things with out completely whoring myself out.

Am I stopping to post on the weekend? NO WAY!

There is always my Sunday Pulls!  And now there is SOMETHING-ELSE SATURDAYS!

FACT: This is a brilliant idea, which no doubt people will copy and once again not give will credit…mark my words. Yes, I’m looking at you idea stealers who don’t give credit to other writers…you bad mean bloggers you!

So “Something-Else Saturday” is where I will let you know about something else that is pretty cool on the Internet or not on the Internet. Something I’m doing, or wish I was doing, something funny, or not funny. Basically, something you should be checking out!

Now I’m not saying what I give you on Saturday is going to be cooler then this site when it’s just me and my rants, but whatever it is will have my Plum stamp of approval. Plus, I’ll be the one telling you about it in my always “dazzling” manner, so you get that.

“Something-Else Saturdays” could be anything but mostly it will be things that make me laugh and sites worth checking out.

So, in starting you off with an introduction I’d like to draw your attention to a site I love. A site I have written about before and they just got an amazing face-lift and I fell in love all over again.

Read my previous post about them here.

But more importantly go over and check out LOVE IN THE DUMPS with all their news, views and humor for singles. (like me!)

If I’m searching through the garbage dump of single-doom I want the kids from Love in the Dumps collecting cans with me!

HAPPY SOMETHING-ELSE SATURDAY.

See you next week:)

SIDEBAR: HAPPY WOLRD THEATRE DAY!
