I'm a glasses kind of girl…

I wear glasses. I own contacts (the one-wear-disposable kind) but I wear glasses! In fact, I own about 32 pairs, although about 10 I basically never wear in public. This maybe because I’ve been a plastic frame girl since before plastic frames came in more then 3 styles for girls (I can still hear the pleas from my mother telling me to put down the big tortoiseshell glasses). So some of them aren’t that appealing, well they are appealing for those who shop at American Apparel but not me. (come on I’m a classy lady!)

I think I pull of glasses well, they suit my face and definitely suit my personality, but lets be honest, sometimes they are in the way. Especially when doing extra curricular ‘horizontal‘ activities. You have to have the awkward ‘now I have to take my glasses off’ moment. (only Once has this been HOT)

This is what gets me thinking about why I can never abandon my protective eyewear. There is no question I’m a clumsy! Danger and ‘situations’ find me wherever I go; I’m like a magnet. (my friends still place bets every year for the date I’ll fall through a sidewalk grate) And I feel like the chances of me losing an eye while not wearing glasses one day are pretty high. Although, I’m the kind of person who yes would have a bird fly into her eye at the park, I base my theory solely on my ‘horizontal’ experiences: the only time I don’t wear my protective eye gear while taking part in an ‘activit’.

I am constantly getting hit or poked or smacked in the eye, and when I say eye I mean like right in the eye during, but mostly after sexual activities. It’s so bad and so given that I actually have a line/joke that goes with the occurrence:

“No, no it’s fine, I don’t need that eye. My (right/left/one I’m not holding in pain) eye is the better one anyways.”

This past December ‘Bronx Boy’ pocked me directly in the eye ball so hard he actually thought it popped out, “all I felt was wet eyeball, is it in there, is it in there” he yelled in panic mood. I of course fighting back tears (cause that hurt) start laughing.

So, as I put on my glasses today I can’t help but think that they just might be the best relationship I’ve ever invested in. They are always there for me, always protective, bring out the best in me, help me see things in a whole new light, and have never tried to blind me! (yet)

FACT: I have yet to fall through a sidewalk grate, much to the amazement of my friends and my mother.

I’m also a glasses girl, and a plastic frame girl. I only have one pair (D&G, very classy, not hipster) and I couldn’t imagine life without them. When I wear contacts I feel weird. Not myself. So while contacts are fun for dress up, I’m sticking with the glasses. Even if they do get awkward at times. I’m glad someone feel.s the same way
