Had a late dinner last night with Simone after the third instalment of Dating Boot Camp (more on that to come!)
As we sat and talked over our burgers about all thing good, bad, ugly, and sexy. I recounted the story of the first “sex talk” I ever had with my mother. And I thought I should share.
It Happened Like This:
My mother and I are driving in the car home from something. I’m 17, and had been dating “firstguy” for almost 2 years. We aren’t really saying anything, sorta sitting in silence. Then out of nowhere,
Mrs.P: Have you and ‘firstguy’ had sex yet?
Me: NO…. (in an awkward way, because we of course had)
Mrs.P: Well you better or he’ll break up with you.
We then look at each other in that, did you just say that/did that just come out of my mouth, way.
She quickly pulls over to the side of the road and gets out of the car, and starts walking…..when she finally returns to the car, she turns to me and says, “I don’t want to talk about it. I can’t talk to you when you are like this!”
And we drove home in silence. It would be almost 3 years before she would say anything about sex again to me.
your mom sounds great, can she be my mom to! My mom never talked sex things with us at all and i sometimes wish she had. please talk about the time after that that you guys talked about sex.

I am ROFL! What a horrible experience. I am only laughing because it must have been so painful for you. And talk about mom promoting a healthy attitude about sex! Oh, my. What are our parents thinking sometimes.
it’s ok to laugh…..with my mother sometimes you just have too. She has these moments that come out of nowhere (like this) and otherwise she’s so straight and proper. (thanks for the comment luckychica!)

I can’t stop grinning at how your mom talked about sex !
The first reference to sex must have been at the Spanish airport whilst our flights were delayed and we saw a 16 yr old pregnant girl come and sit across us (I was 16 at the time too) .. and my mom just looks over at my sister and me and says – if you girls EVER got pregnant before getting married – please come to me so I can help you sort it out – otherwise your father will kill you and then kill me !
So no direct reference to sex – just enough threat that our father would kill us and that sex can get you pregnant before you know it !
The second time at age 17, I was getting ready for a party – and out of nowhere .. ’so have you had sex’ ? errmmm NO MOM !! ‘Well – if you ‘must’ have sex – ideally it should be someone that you are going to get married to …. !!
Mind you – she’s not the most conservative lady – but she would like to think of her daughters as angels rather than the devils we are haha
Thanks for sharing – I just told my mom that and made her laugh ‘cos she agreed it’s also true that if you’ve been with a guy for quite a while and not sleeping together – he could start straying or losing interest !
